The purpose of these talks is to provide an elementary introduction to formal deformation theory introduced by Gerstenhaber for rings and associative algebras. It is based on formal power series and the main results connect the one parameter formal deformations of an algebra to a suitable cohomology. This approach extends to many algebraic structures.
We will recall the basics about associative algebras, Lie algebras and Hopf algebras, as well as Homological algebras tools. Quantization problem and Quantum groups will be also discussed.
